for everyone
Last Saturday, we had our “From Me to We” seminar. In one of the sessions , we discussed the differences between man and woman. Everytime I teach a session like this, I never fail to make fun of my husband (and men in general) because they have “disconnected brains.” You see, men do not process things in the same way women do. Men are like waffles, as has been said, because they think in boxes or compartments. If they’re talking about sports, then they stick to sports. If it’s business, then it’s business. Women on the other hand, are like spaghetti, because every topic is entangled with every other topic imaginable.  So when a wife starts talking to her husband about her day, it might seem that her husband has zoned out, or might look like he’s in a trance, because actually, he needs time to move from one box to the other, to keep up with the many topics we talk about in one conversation.

This difference does not make one better than the other. It’s just how God wired us. And it actually works for the good. I saw this work yesterday…

Sunday morning, Paolo was busy finishing up his  preaching, when suddenly the rain poured. In a snap, he got up from his chair and yelled  “Kids, follow me to the garden!”  Automatically, the kids knew what was on their dad’s mind… “SHOWER IN THE RAIN!” As I watched everyone rush out of the house, different thoughts raced through my mind… “it’s cold, what if the kids get sick? I don’t want them to miss school.  The helpers are on day off, who’s gonna mop the wet floors? Janina took a bath already. She’ll have to take a bath again. etc. etc.”  While Paolo had one just one thing in mind, which was to have fun with the kids, I had 10 different things in mine. Had I allowed my spaghetti mind to get the better of me,  I would have missed hearing my kids squeal in delight as they ran through the rain and splashed in the puddles!

This is one of those times I thank God my husband thinks the way he does.

oh this reminds of childhood memories... i used to look forward to hard rain showers because that means making splashes on poddle of water without slippers. hahaha! i have so many pictures to prove it. hehe. my brother and i loved it so much that sometimes we use the hose to pretend there's rain.

thanks or the reminder sistah! Yeah often we miss out on the "fun" because of the tons of other "serious" things in our minds we want to get done or we want followed through...

thank you for your blog. God used you today, to me and am sure, a lot of others... God bless you, sistah!

oh yeah... i didn't think about that... you're right, disconnected brain. but that's why we're a great team - we compliment; one's disconnected and the other's not. ha. love you darling.

I can so relate, Ms. Jenn! Not that I have a spouse but when I needed to discuss something with my dad or brother. I'm really beginning to see the difference between how men and women think and how it actually works. Great Blog!

my brain is often disconnected according to the 5 women (1 wife, 4 daughters that is) of my life, not even waffle like, just plain disconnected.

i still thank GOD i have a brain, & the 5 women of my life.

Alam mo ba Jenn, na a few of our happy memories ni Paolo were in Marikina, when we'd play in the rain, lalo na't bumabaha sa labas ng bahay namin and we'd float on the rising water while using the street gutter as our head rest? There were 2 big spouts pouring rain water just outside our garage. SARAP!!!
twinkelita wrote on Aug 5, '08
Believe it or not, I'll be the one to initiate playing in the rain!!! hahaha... pero yeah, we're spaghetti minded and men are waffles. I'm glad we learned that in one of the couples' retreat we've been to early in our marriage. Learning our differences is a big help in understanding each other. I'm so happy we're in victory! :-)

ey jen... that was a real good blog... but i think with me & frank, it's baliktad... i'm the one who's comparmentalized--one thing lang at a time (pstr paolo know that!) even when i was younger, people would say i think more like a man!!! & it's frank who can go from 1 topic to another at the blink of an eye & process things all at the same time!!! i guess that's the investigator in him (that's his job/profession btw)... so what you think? ; D
coollarem wrote on Aug 15, '08
